Mobility Grants for Artists (Sub-Saharan Africa & Europe)

A grant to get you to the place your work needs you to be. This scheme covers artists and cultural professionals travelling between African countries, and between sub-Saharan Africa and Europe: research trips that feed new work, collaborations with artists in other countries, residencies at cultural institutions, participation in festivals and events, and professional development. Musicians are explicitly among the disciplines welcomed, alongside theatre makers, visual artists, writers, filmmakers, dancers, photographers and digital creators, and both emerging and established practitioners can apply.

The programme's stated first priority is travel within Africa, building continental networks and collaborations. Africa–Europe exchanges are also welcome, particularly where you already have a partner or an invitation waiting. You must be based in sub-Saharan Africa or an EU country.

The published figures cover travel at up to €400 within Africa and up to €1,800 from Europe, plus accommodation, daily allowances and project expenses. Additional support is available if you have children, have accessibility needs, or choose lower-carbon travel. The page does not publish a single overall ceiling per trip.

Applications are reviewed monthly on a rolling basis, so there is no one date to hit — but the mobility has to be clearly tied to your artistic development. Assessors weigh artistic quality, innovation, and the potential to build connections that outlast the trip. The strongest applications explain why travel is essential rather than convenient, and show the relationship in the destination country already exists.
