Österreichischer Musikfonds – Impulsförderung

The Impulse Programme exists for the single international date that could open a market: a showcase, a festival slot, a support appearance, a one-off presentation or a short tour abroad. It is deliberately quick to apply for, and it is judged less on artistic merit than on whether the trip can reasonably be expected to have a lasting effect for the act internationally.

You can apply either as a professionally active music business - booking agency, management, label, publisher - or as an Austria-based musician who handles the commercial organisation of the activity yourself. Unlike the fund's tour support, you do not need to have received a production grant first.

An artist or group can receive up to EUR 7,000 in a year, across one or more awards. The money covers transport and accommodation for musicians, technical crew and industry staff, performance fees, external fees and promotion, and rental of equipment or venues. Projects that build in environmentally friendly practice earn a green incentive worth an extra 10% of the grant.

One catch worth knowing before you spend an evening on the form: this funds a shortfall, not a profit. If the fees, sponsorship and other income from the activity are enough to cover its costs, it cannot be supported.

Applications can be sent in at any time but are decided in rounds. The 2026 deadlines fell on 4 April, 8 August and 21 October, with decisions given roughly three weeks after each. The application form and the full guidelines are in German.
