About this opportunity
Arts in Society funds art that works on a civic or social problem in a Colorado community — a musician embedded in a hospital system, an ensemble built around a neighbourhood issue, a project made with a public agency rather than about one. You do not need to be an arts organisation. Individual artists, nonprofits, schools, universities, government agencies, healthcare bodies and neighbourhood groups can all apply, provided you live in Colorado or work with a Colorado organisation, and provided artists, an organisation and a target community are genuinely working together on the problem. Grants run from $5,000 to $35,000 and no match is required — you may request a project's full cost, though you may be awarded less and asked to narrow the scope. Capital work such as renovation is excluded, and projects must finish within 24 months. Applying happens in two stages: a letter of interest first, then selected finalists are invited in November to submit a full proposal in January, with money distributed the following spring. You may submit several letters if each covers a different project. Panels score artistic excellence, the authenticity of the relationships behind the project, whether the scope and intended outcome are realistic with the right partners engaged, and how well the need is evidenced by the community itself. Grantees join a learning cohort with other awardees, have a mini-documentary made about the work, and must file a final report covering both money and impact.
