CCI Quick Grant (CA) — monthly micro-grants

A small, fast grant of up to $600 that runs every month, aimed squarely at the unglamorous side of a music career — the business and administrative skills nobody teaches you. The Center for Cultural Innovation frames it as building administrative capacity, sharpening business skills and strengthening financial resilience.

The eligible costs are refreshingly practical. Registration for a conference, festival, workshop or training. Travel to get there, plus hotel, meals, gas, parking, tolls and public transport. Professional memberships or subscriptions that build your network or skills. Fees for a facilitator, coach, mentor, career counsellor or consultant. And, unusually, caregiving — childcare, daycare or eldercare — so that the cost of being away is covered too.

The rule that governs all of it: the activity must have an educational benefit or leave you with a skill. Paying somebody to do work on your behalf does not qualify, which rules out website design, having someone moderate your webinar, or hiring help to run your online sales.

You are eligible as an individual artist, creative, cultural practitioner or producer living full-time in California, in any discipline. Staff of nonprofit arts organisations based in San Francisco or San José can also apply, including fiscally sponsored groups doing 75% or more of their programming in those cities.

Applications run through Submittable, opening on the 16th of each month at 9:00am PT and closing on the 15th at 11:59am PT — note that is a.m., not midnight. Decisions come on the 16th of the following month. The page does not say whether funds arrive upfront or as reimbursement.
