About this opportunity

A development grant for a self-taught musician working outside the formal training routes - someone whose path has no conservatoire course attached to it. The talent decides what they want to learn, writes their own development plan and owns the trajectory; the money pays for whatever that plan needs, typically coaching, intensive training or mentoring. The focus has to be artistic development, with personal and business goals secondary, and the knowledge gained is expected to be shared so other makers benefit.

The detail that trips people up: the talent does not apply. A cultural institution or a professional established in the Kingdom of the Netherlands applies on their behalf and actively guides the trajectory. A professional applying independently needs at least three years of activity in cultural participation or education, three years of recognition as an entrepreneur by the Dutch tax authority, and a Chamber of Commerce registration. A small fixed group - a duo or an act - can be supported as well as one person.

Grants run from EUR 10,000 to EUR 25,000 and may cover 100% of project costs, so no match funding is required; at least 90% must go directly to the talent's development, and budgets are stated including VAT. Projects last six months to two years, start no sooner than thirteen weeks after applying, and must begin within six months of approval. Activities take place in free time, not at school.

Applications are handled first come, first served until the budget for the period runs out - which is what happened to the second 2026 round, closed early after demand outran the money. The Fund says the scheme reopens in 2027, date to be announced. Everything - regulation, templates, form - is in Dutch.
