About this opportunity

Arts Idaho is the state arts agency, and its grants are in the middle of a restructure - worth knowing before you plan around them, because the published PDF guidelines are out of date and the website now takes precedence. As things stand, five opportunities are listed, all with a 31 January 2027 deadline: Entry Track and Public Programs in the Arts (annual operating support for arts nonprofits and university-based arts organisations), Arts Education Annual Projects, Traditional Arts Apprenticeships, and a Writer in Residence post. For a working musician the most direct route is Traditional Arts Apprenticeships, which pays folk and traditional masters to teach an apprentice. Otherwise the money flows through organisations - a venue, presenter or festival you work with - rather than to individual performers. Quarterly project grants exist in the agency's structure but none are currently posted.

Organisations must be a 501(c)(3) nonprofit or a unit of local, county, tribal or state government; fiscal agents are no longer accepted, and every organisation needs a federal Unique Entity Identifier from SAM.gov or the application is not considered at all.

Applications go through an online portal where first-time applicants need an approved account before they can start, so leave time for that. Deadlines close at 11.59pm Mountain Time and late or incomplete submissions are not read. Work samples are capped - up to five audio or video pieces totalling ten minutes. Staff will give a courtesy review if you ask at least three weeks ahead. Panels recommend, commissioners approve; annual awards are decided in May, notified in June, and paid from July.

Note what is explicitly off the table: scholarships and prizes, CD duplication, websites, brochures and other promotional or mass-distribution material, tuition, debt, hospitality, and any project that starts before the eligible start date.

Pro

Know who's reviewing — and what has won before.

For opportunities approaching their deadline, Pro members get a researched briefing: who sits on the jury, what they care about, and what past winning projects looked like. Briefings are prepared roughly 5 to 10 weeks before each deadline, while there's still time to shape your application.
