Künstlerdorf Schöppingen Fellowship 2027

Composers take one of three strands at this residency in Schöppingen, a village in rural North Rhine-Westphalia; the other two are visual arts and literature. The point is uninterrupted time. You choose a stay of between two and six months, live and work on site, and there is no obligation to produce or present anything by the end — it is deliberately not a production fellowship.

It is open to professional composers of any nationality and any age, and since 2023 to collectives as well. Individuals receive €1,500 a month, less roughly €100 to €200 for rent and running costs; collectives get €1,000 per person up to a ceiling of €3,000, on the same terms. Travel, insurance and material costs are covered only in exceptional cases, so budget for those yourself.

Applications for 2027 stays run from 27 June to 31 August 2026 through the online portal. You answer five short questions — a statement about your work, a biography, the project you plan, any contribution you might make to the public programme, and why this place in particular — and upload one PDF of no more than 10MB holding a CV and two or three pieces, with audio linked from an open platform such as SoundCloud. The jury weighs the quality of your existing work, how plausible the project is for Schöppingen specifically, and what you would bring to the shared programme.
