The applicant must be organised and based in Texas as a nonprofit qualifying as a 501(c)(3), must be in good standing with the State of Texas, and must owe no delinquent taxes to any Texas taxing unit. You need a 9-digit State Payee Identification Number, EIN or Vendor ID to start an application. Applications run from 5 October to 7 December 2026 and are submitted through the Office of the Governor eGrants system. Texas-based nonprofits with 501(c)(3) status can apply for a small grant, between $1,500 and $3,000, to run a music-related educational or community programme — paying for workshops or lessons taught by a working music professional, buying instruments from a Texas retailer, or covering an educational presentation that has already taken place. It''s reimbursement-only, so you pay first and submit receipts afterward, and the money comes from sales of Texas''s music specialty license plate rather than general tax revenue, so the amount available is capped by what''s actually been raised that year. Your organisation needs to be in good standing with the state and current on any Texas taxes, and you can only receive one of these grants per state fiscal year. The money can''t go toward food, alcohol, gifts or promotional items, international travel, fundraising, lobbying, or anything that simply replaces funding you already had. You apply through the state''s eGrants portal, entering your organisation''s EIN, naming at least three contacts at your organisation, and submitting and certifying your application by the deadline. Reviewers weigh how complete and well-matched to the programme''s goals your application is, and give extra consideration to cost-effective, comprehensive projects, organisations that didn''t receive this grant the previous year, projects tied to a historic milestone, and programmes serving smaller counties.
