Ensembles of 2 to 10 musicians including guest artists, professional composer-led or collective jazz ensembles; student groups are not eligible. The ensemble or the primary contact must hold a current CMA Organization Membership at the time of application. Several exclusions catch people out: you cannot appear on applications to both New Jazz Works and Classical Commissioning in the same year; a composer already on a current New Jazz Works, Classical Commissioning or Artistic Projects grant cannot apply; current grantees with a project in progress cannot apply; any outstanding obligations from prior CMA grants must be fulfilled first; and PAST NEW JAZZ WORKS GRANTEES WHO RECEIVED A GRANT IN THE LAST 5 YEARS (2021 onwards) ARE NOT ELIGIBLE. The 2026 round required the composition, premiere and additional concert to be completed by 31 December 2026.

Chamber Music America funds a jazz ensemble to commission, premiere and tour a new work, paying the composer, the players, the continued life of the piece and the admin behind it. THIS PROGRAMME IS NOT CURRENTLY ACCEPTING APPLICATIONS: the 2026 round closed on 26 February 2026 at 11:59pm Eastern with awards notified in June, and no 2027 cycle has been announced, so the stored deadline has been cleared rather than rolled. The pattern to watch is a late-February deadline with June notifications. Membership of CMA is required to apply, and anyone who held a New Jazz Works grant since 2021 is excluded from the next round.
