About this opportunity
This award is for UK jazz musicians and groups who Help Musicians describes as at a "tipping point" in their career, where a bit of targeted support could change what happens next. One recipient gets £5,000 plus one-to-one business advice from industry professionals over time; a further £5,000 is shared among other development-award recipients, who also get mentoring. The money can go toward time to create (writing, composition, rehearsal, collaboration with other musicians), recording costs such as studio hire, engineering, mixing and mastering, touring, content creation, mentoring or marketing; it cannot pay for formal study, buying instruments, competition entry, or anything starting within three months of applying. To qualify you need to be 18 or over, living in the UK with the right to work here and a UK bank account, have earned at least 40% of your income from music over the past two years (with an exception for applicants managing a disability or health condition), and hold no more than £10,000 in savings; for groups, at least half the members need to individually meet those tests, and the group needs to have performed together regularly for at least a year. You apply online through a portal, confirming your eligibility as part of the profile, and shortlisted applicants are invited to an Artist Development Day where they perform for an expert panel and get an individual business consultation. Assessors weigh your track record, how realistic and well-timed your plan is, how the money would actually move your career forward, and whether your budget adds up across the different things you want to spend it on. Applications for this round opened 7 September 2026 and close Monday 12 October at 5pm, and shortlisted applicants attend the Artist Development Day on 26 November.
