Wisconsin Arts Board — Creation and Presentation Program (FY27 application calendar)

This is operating and programming support for Wisconsin nonprofits that have been presenting or producing arts activity consistently for at least three years, music venues, presenters and ensembles among them. It rewards a track record rather than a pitch for a new idea: the narrative is built on what you have already done, not what you plan to do. To qualify you need 501(c)(3) status, an average operating revenue of at least $10,000 over the last three years, and roots in Wisconsin; presenting organisations must also stage four or more performances a year by touring professional artists in a locally planned series open to the wider community.

Awards are formula-based rather than fixed. The program sets a $2,000 floor, caps any single award at 25% of your three-year average revenue (or last year's revenue, whichever is lower) and at 8% of the program's total funds, so larger, better-funded organisations receive proportionally less. You must also bring a 1:1 cash match — in-kind contributions don't count toward it. Applications go in online through SmartSimple by 15 October 2026, 3pm, with new applicants first filing an intent to apply by 11 September. A peer panel scores each application out of 100 across four equal categories: artistic and educational value, organisational and financial management, community participation and accessibility, and planning and evaluation. Panel meetings are livestreamed and open to the public.
