About this opportunity
The American Virtuoso International Music Competition's Winter Edition, themed Through the Eras, is an online video competition for instrumentalists of any nationality playing piano, strings, woodwinds or brass, solo or in chamber groups, with repertoire sorted into four periods: Baroque, Classical, Romantic, and 20th and 21st century. Entrants choose one of three age brackets — an Artist group for college music majors and working professionals, an Amateur Artist group for anyone 19 or over playing outside those categories, or a Young Artist group split into three further age bands down to under-10 — and submit a recorded performance by video, with an early-bird deadline of 10 November 2026 and a final cut-off of 1 January 2027. The page doesn't publish an entry fee, so check the application form for the current cost. Winners are offered a recital at Weill Recital Hall in Carnegie Hall, free masterclasses with the judging panel, written feedback on their performance, and in some cases a scholarship place at an affiliated music festival that runs ahead of the final round. AVIMC says only that it's looking for "a strong classical artistic personality, vision and stage presence" — the fuller scoring rubric sits in a separate guidelines document the competition links to rather than publishes on the page itself.
