Artistic groups, arts organizations, First Nations, Inuit or Métis groups, collectives or not-for-profits, and presenting organizations, from Canada, partnering with one or more foreign arts organizations. Individual artists cannot apply. About this opportunity
The Canada Council for the Arts funds artistic groups and arts organizations making new work with a partner based outside Canada, through two forms. An artistic co-production has a Canadian group and one or more foreign organisations sharing creative, financial and human resources and credit as co-creators. A financial co-production has a Canadian presenter or festival putting money into a new work by a foreign artist for presentation to Canadian audiences. Either way, the project must end in a public presentation or publication, and the application goes through the Council's online portal, which requires a validated applicant profile set up at least 30 days ahead. Individual artists can't apply — this is for groups, collectives, organisations, festivals, presenters and literary publishers — and applicants need to already hold Canada Council core operating support and have received at least one Council project grant in the past five years (grants from several smaller programmes, including Travel and Professional Development, don't count toward that). Funding tops out at 50,000 Canadian dollars per application, with up to two applications allowed per year, covering artist and technical fees, production costs, space and equipment, travel and per diems, promotion, project management, safety and accessibility costs. The programme runs two deadlines a year, 15 April and 4 November, and decisions typically take about five months. Artists who may need extra support with the paperwork — including Deaf, disabled or Indigenous applicants facing language or cultural barriers — can apply for paid application assistance.
