Café Royal Cultural Foundation — Music Grant (NYC)
Offered by Café Royal Cultural Foundation NYC
Who can apply
New York City residents only. Musicians in all genres. One category per applicant.
About this opportunity
This production grant pays for the unglamorous but expensive part of making a record, not for writing it. New York City musicians in any genre, applying as individuals rather than as a band or label, can ask for up to $20,000 toward producer fees, recording, mixing, editing, and mastering, ideally completed somewhere in the five boroughs or another location the Foundation approves; it won''t fund your own artist, producer, or musician fee, home-studio sessions, or anything after the music is finished, like artwork, manufacturing, or publicity. You need to already live in New York City, and have done so for at least a year before applying, planning to stay through the project''s completion; your composition has to be finished by the deadline, and if it''s original work, you need to be the main creator of it. Applying means sending up to five song links or a short private streaming playlist, a brief project description, short biographies for everyone involved, and a budget broken into the categories the Foundation actually covers. A selection committee scores every entry, the strongest five go to an executive committee for a final call, and what they weigh is the quality of the composition and performance, originality, cultural relevance, and whether the project points to future achievement. Each cycle only takes a capped number of applications, so a cycle can and does fill before its stated deadline.
