About this opportunity
The Swedish Arts Council's project grant for the independent music sector. It funds artistic production, cultural events staged in Sweden, and international exchange within the music field. Independent operators in music can apply, including phonogram producers, provided they work professionally and are active in Sweden. Independent theatre, dance and other performing-arts operators, and local and regional institutions, can also apply here for one specific purpose: commissioning new work from composers.
Check the formal requirement first. Applicants must be a legal entity or a sole trader holding a Swedish F-tax certificate, so you cannot apply as a private individual.
One condition shapes everything else — the Council only funds activity that also has other funding. This is co-financing, never a sole source. Beyond that, priority goes to projects judged to have a genuine financial need and to be economically sustainable, credible and deliverable; to applications that budget proper fees for everyone working professionally on the project and include realistic performance or ticket income; and to applications that follow industry agreements, collective agreements, union minimum rates, or equivalent terms.
That last criterion is unusually explicit and worth reading as a signal: underpaying the people you work with actively weakens your application.
Application windows are set and published on the Council's own site, and the guidelines and application system are in Swedish.
