Finnish Cultural Foundation (SKR) – Working Grants (October joint round)

The Finnish Cultural Foundation funds artistic and scientific work broadly, and music sits comfortably inside that remit: grants cover ordinary living costs so you can work on your art full-time, as well as expenditure grants for specific projects or equipment and instrument purchases. You don't need to be Finnish - the foundation also funds people and organisations based in Finland, and applicants elsewhere can qualify if they can show a genuine connection to Finland or Finnish culture, though the foundation doesn't spell out exactly how that is judged. Individuals, registered organisations and working groups can all apply. The big change for 2026 is structural: instead of four application windows a year, most grants - from both the regional funds and the central fund - now go through one joint round, 15 to 30 October, with a separate round still running in August. Apply through the foundation's online portal; the site directs applicants to separate guidance pages for the materials you will need rather than listing them up front, so budget time to track those down. The foundation doesn't publish typical or maximum grant sizes, but scale gives a sense of it: around 2,500 grants a year, with 2025 alone distributing €48.9 million across 2,100 grants from 20,600 applications. Expect competition, and note that funded work can't begin before a decision is made.
