About this opportunity

MACC funds Michigan nonprofits rather than individual musicians directly, so this is for a venue, presenter, label, school programme or arts organisation, not a solo artist applying on their own behalf. Mission Support is the track most music organisations will use: it is for 501(c)(3)s whose primary purpose is arts and culture, covering operations (up to $25,000), facility improvements and equipment (up to $30,000), professional development and field trips (up to $1,500 each), and arts education programming (up to $10,000), with a combined cap of $68,000 across categories. If arts and culture is not your organisation's main purpose but you run a music project anyway, such as a school, municipality or non-arts nonprofit, you would apply instead through Experience Support, which covers similar categories at generally smaller scale. A separate Partnership track exists for initiatives aligned with the Council's own priorities, reached only after filing a short intent-to-apply form, and it is closed to anyone already applying through the other two.

Mission and Experience Support both require a $10 application fee and seven compliance checks: a valid EIN, a publicly viewable SAM.gov registration, Michigan headquarters, an arts and culture classification, a completed federal accessibility self-evaluation, active nonprofit status with the state, and charitable registration. There is no points-based scoring; applications are reviewed strictly on whether they meet every requirement, and missing even one disqualifies the request. Applications are due 22 October 2026 at 5pm ET through the SmartSimple portal, with awards announced in December.

One thing to check first: as of 18 October 2026 the MACC grants page contradicts itself, marking the FY27 cycle "Closed" while also giving a deadline to apply of 22 October 2026. The site sits behind bot protection, so we could not settle which is current. The date is only days away and may well be live, so confirm directly with MACC before you start an application.
