About this opportunity

This national residency puts Sweden-based musicians to work in the Dalarna village of Djurås, at Studio Cirkus — a former 1897 mission house that Region Dalarna has turned into a professional recording studio with a church hall and piano attached. Konstnärsnämnden (the Swedish Arts Grants Committee) funds the musicians' time; the applicant travels with up to three colleagues of their choosing, so a stay can host anywhere from a solo artist to a full quartet, with an in-house technician on hand throughout.

Funding runs to SEK 10,000 per participating musician, with travel, housing and studio costs covered separately — you're not expected to pay your way there or fund your stay out of the stipend itself. There's no requirement to leave with a finished album or a concert; the residency is built for open-ended creative work rather than a deliverable.

Eligibility follows Konstnärsnämnden's usual bar for its music grants: you need to be a professional musician, composer, producer or conductor who is based in Sweden or does most of your artistic work there. Apply through the committee's online portal by 14:00 CET on the deadline; the specific materials this particular residency asks for aren't spelled out on the general applications page, so it's worth checking the listing itself once applications open. Decisions are expected in March 2027.
