About this opportunity

Residency B28 gives you a stretch of uninterrupted time on Suomenlinna, the island fortress a short ferry ride from central Helsinki. For a musician that might mean composing, developing a concept, rehearsing with a group, or research. The focus is explicitly on work in progress — you cannot apply with a project that is already finished.

It is open to professionals in any art field living in the Nordic region: the five Nordic countries plus Åland, Greenland and the Faroe Islands. Groups can apply together, each member submitting their own application with a shared statement of collaboration attached. The September 2026 round narrows the focus to cultural practitioners from indigenous peoples and minorities in the Nordic region, and covers stays of one to six weeks between 1 October 2027 and 31 March 2028.

What you receive is in kind rather than cash. There is a single flat at B28 — bedroom, living room, kitchen, loft and bathroom with a washing machine, linen for six — and it is yours alone or your group's for the whole stay. Alongside it are two large vaulted rooms for making and showing work, the second set up for performances and music events with 40 chairs and space for a small stage, an office room, a darkroom, and use of the sauna once a week. The pages do not mention a stipend or travel costs.

Applications go through the electronic portal and must arrive by 15:59 Finnish time on the closing date; late ones are refused. Nordic Culture Point assesses feasibility, artistic content and Nordic reach, and expects residents to give a public artist talk and an open studio during the stay.
