The House of Songs in Austin, Texas hosts a Konstnärsnämnden-funded residency for Sweden-based musicians, composers, producers and conductors — any instrument, including electronics and vocals. The programme puts you inside a working songwriting house with a network of collaborators, typically for four to eight weeks. A four-week stay carries a tax-free stipend of 40,000 SEK plus standardised travel reimbursement; workspace and housing are arranged through the partnership rather than funded separately. To apply you need to make some or all of your living from music, be based in Sweden or do most of your artistic work there, not be more than half-enrolled in study when the decision is made, and be clear of debts with Swedish enforcement authorities. The online application asks for at least 20 minutes of recent audio (MP3, high bitrate, properly tagged with artist, title and genre), an optional set of up to three scores, and a written description of the planned stay, in English. A panel of practising musicians — at least two per application — judges submissions on artistic quality and financial need, and the committee deliberately spreads awards across genres and geography rather than picking on quality alone. Within a month of returning, recipients write a short report on what the residency did for their work. Decisions are announced in March 2027.
