Residens i Bargny, Senegal – Sobobade

This residency sends a Sweden-based musician or composer to Sobobade in Bargny, Senegal, for a stretch of focused work and cultural exchange, typically four to eight weeks depending on what you need and when the partner venue can host you. Konstnärsnämnden (the Swedish Arts Grants Committee) pays a SEK 40,000 stipend for a four-week stay, adjusted pro rata for longer visits, plus standard travel costs on top. Accommodation and workspace in Senegal come through the partnership agreement itself, so you're not expected to fund or arrange them separately.

To qualify you need to be a professional musician or composer who earns income from your art, based in Sweden or doing most of your artistic work there, enrolled as a student no more than half-time, free of debts to Swedish authorities or bankruptcy, and within the EU's €300,000 de minimis aid ceiling over three years.

You apply once a year through Konstnärsnämnden's online "My pages" portal, by 14:00 CET on the deadline. The application needs at least 20 minutes of recent (under three years old) music as high-quality MP3s, with scores submittable as PDFs. A panel judges applications on artistic quality and financial need, drawing on the work samples, references and your stated circumstances. Decisions land in March 2027, and recipients file a short written report within a month of returning.
