Residens i Vancouver, Kanada – Coastal Jazz and Blues Festival

The Swedish Arts Grants Committee has run this residency with Vancouver's Coastal Jazz and Blues Festival since 2015, sending a Sweden-based musician or composer to work alongside the festival for several weeks and build professional ties in Canada. You get a workspace, accommodation and a stipend covering living costs and standard travel, structured as a tax-free grant rather than a fee for services. To apply, you need to already make a living wholly or partly from music, be based in Sweden or do most of your artistic work there, not be more than half-enrolled as a student, and be free of debt collection or bankruptcy proceedings. A typical four-week placement carries a 40,000 SEK grant covering both living costs and travel. The application itself needs at least 20 minutes of recent music as an MP3 at 320 kbps, a CV, and a written outline of what you'd do during the residency, composed in English since Coastal Jazz reviews it directly. A committee of practising artists and specialists judges applications mainly on the artistic quality of the submitted recordings and the applicant's financial circumstances, and tends to give less weight to musicians who've recently received other funding, so this suits someone between grants more than someone already well supported. Decisions land in March 2027 for the year ahead.
