About this opportunity
This is money for projects that strengthen British Columbia's music sector as a whole, not for making records. Think conferences, panels and workshops, mentorship and training schemes, community infrastructure or digital platforms, best-practice manuals on business, harm reduction or sustainability, collaborative business initiatives, and research into how the industry works. The test is breadth: anything that mainly benefits one artist, company or client roster is out, and you have to show how peers — even competitors — gain from it.
Individuals, collectives, companies and organisations can apply, as long as they are active in BC's music industry and located in Canada. Newly registered start-ups count. An informal collective can apply with one person taking legal responsibility for the funds. Consultants and academic institutions are eligible only with genuine industry partners involved in delivery.
Grants run from CAD $2,000 to $20,000 for individuals, collectives and organisations with internally prepared accounts, and up to $60,000 for those with financial statements prepared externally by a CPA. Funding covers up to 75% of eligible costs; the remaining quarter must come from other public funding, private investment, earned revenue or in-kind contributions. Three quarters of the grant is paid on signing, the balance after the final report.
Applying happens in two stages: a short project summary answered within about three weeks, then a full application by invitation, processed in roughly ten weeks. Scoring covers industry development, investment in BC talent, economic impact, innovation, equity and capacity. The 2026/27 budget is $400,000 on a rolling intake to 30 October 2026 — though Creative BC's page states it stopped accepting new project summaries on 5 August 2026, so confirm the status before starting work on an application.
