Anderson Center at Tower View — Artist Residency Program (2027)

A stretch of two to four weeks on a 350-acre former estate in Red Wing, Minnesota, about 45 minutes from Minneapolis, with nothing asked of you but the work. Residencies run May through October; the 2027 season has spots in May, June, July, August and October, with roughly five artists on site at a time. Composers and musicians have access to two grand pianos, and practice space is available on campus. Each resident gets a room in the historic Tower View house with linens and weekly cleaning, and a residency chef cooks dinner on weeknights with all groceries provided.

The support is in kind rather than cash. There is no residency fee and no charge for food, but the general programme carries no stipend, so you cover your own travel — the Center runs transport to and from Minneapolis-St. Paul airport on the first and last day only. Separate Early Career and Deaf Artists tracks do pay stipends, but they have their own eligibility rules.

It is open to artists anywhere in the world at any career stage, and "artist" is used broadly here, including work that does not sit neatly in one genre. Applications go through Submittable. The 2027 deadline is noon Central on 12 January 2027, with decisions communicated by 2 March; there is only one intake for the season.

One condition worth knowing in advance: residents are expected to give something back locally during their stay — a school visit, a workshop, a community presentation — arranged with staff once you accept a place.
