Avaloch Farm Music Institute — Fully funded residencies (2027–2028 seasons)

Avaloch offers working musicians and ensembles a fully tuition-free stay — a private week (or two) of lodging, meals and studio space with no obligations beyond making work. It's open to any stage of career, from emerging to established, and to a wide range of practices: composers, conductors, soloists, chamber ensembles, and crossover projects combining music with dance or theatre. Travel to and from New Hampshire isn't covered.

There are two costs to plan for even though the residency itself is free. A non-refundable $60 application fee is charged per individual or ensemble when the online form is submitted (hardship waivers can be requested, but only before January 20, 2027); accepted ensembles then pay a refundable $100-per-person deposit to confirm their place.

Applications for the 2027–2028 seasons open December 1, 2026 and close February 1, 2027. You'll need two or three video links showing contrasting performance styles, a short written description of what you want to work on at Avaloch, and a one-page resume or bio; composers additionally submit a score and recording of a chamber work. A panel reviews the videos alongside the project proposal — Avaloch doesn't publish a points-based rubric, but says it's looking for artistic depth and excellence in the applicant's own medium rather than any single genre or format.
