About this opportunity
The Micro stream is for one focused piece of promotion rather than a whole campaign: hiring a publicist or marketing professional, building a website, branding, social media and paid advertising, market research, travel and accommodation for promotional purposes, shipping, or costs tied to confirmed promo dates and press appearances. In-house marketing work can be claimed at industry rates, but you have to justify the hours and explain why you are not hiring someone external.
It is open to applicants in any sector Creative Saskatchewan supports, music included. Two things commonly disqualify people: if your project would fit a production grant such as Sound Recording, you are expected to apply there instead, and activities already funded by SK Arts or SaskCulture cannot be supported here. You may hold only one Micro grant per fiscal year, and you cannot stack more through companies you own.
The grant covers up to half the approved budget, to a maximum of $5,000 — whichever is smaller — so you need the other 50% from elsewhere. Payment is split: 80% on approval, the balance once the final report is accepted. It is competitive; Creative Saskatchewan states that 22% of Micro applications were approved in 2024–25, twelve out of fifty-five.
Applications go through the online grant portal, using the current year's budget template, and close at 4:00pm Saskatchewan time. Results come back in about four weeks. Assessors want a specific project with a named audience, realistic and measurable goals, evidence behind your claims, and a budget that balances or explains its gaps. Program advisors will review a draft beforehand.
