PhD candidates and emerging artists of any age welcome; undergraduate and Master's students ineligible. Closes 6 Nov 2026, 2pm CET.
About this opportunity
EMAP funds a two-month, hands-on production residency at one of 15 media-art organisations across Europe — places like Ars Electronica, iMAL, and LABoral — aimed at digital, media, robotic, and bio art rather than conventional music composition, so this fits artists working with technology and sound rather than a traditional recording or touring project. It's open to residents or taxpayers of EU countries plus a list of partner countries (including Norway, Ukraine, and Georgia), with no upper age limit — PhD candidates and emerging artists of any age can apply, though current undergraduate and Master's students cannot. The one firm structural rule is that you must apply as a duo or propose a collaboration, either with a partner of your choosing or one local to your preferred host; that collaborator doesn't need to be confirmed yet. Financially, the lead artist receives a €4,000 grant (covering subsistence), a collaborating artist receives €2,000 more (so €6,000 for a duo), plus a separate €4,000 project budget, with the host providing accommodation and travel within EU cost limits. To apply, you register on EMAP's site, fill in an online form, and rank your preferred host organisations in order; the deadline is 6 November 2026 at 2pm CET. The page doesn't describe what the jury actually looks for or how finalists are chosen, so beyond meeting the eligibility and collaboration requirements, the selection criteria themselves are not made public.
