Finnish Cultural Foundation (SKR) – Mobility Grants for Artists, Art Journalists and Art Curators

This grant pays for getting somewhere and staying there: travel and accommodation costs for international work outside Finland. For a musician that means a residency, a collaboration abroad, a performance tour or a festival appearance. It is strictly an expenditure grant, so your own fee and living costs have to come from elsewhere, though holding one does not stop you receiving a working grant from the same foundation.

Artists, art journalists and art curators in every artform may apply, as individuals, as working groups, or as registered organisations that do not receive regular public funding. You need a Finnish connection: citizenship, residence or operations in Finland, or an application with a clear and strong link to Finland or Finnish culture. The stay must run at least two consecutive weeks, or one week for a group, and travel into Finland from abroad is never covered.

Requests run from EUR 3,000 to EUR 10,000. Eligible costs are travel, accommodation, residency fees, shipping and insurance, and unusual costs of working abroad, which explicitly includes venue or instrument hire. Low-carbon travel is viewed kindly even when it costs more and takes longer, and emissions offsetting can go in the budget. Daily allowances, general living costs, production fees and degree-related travel are excluded.

The form stays open all year and applications are reviewed in three batches. You can write in Finnish or English, though a short description of the intended use in Finnish is asked of everyone. A CV, work samples and a budget are mandatory; invitations and partner agreements help. No individual feedback is given.
