About this opportunity
This is a salaried two-year post at Princeton rather than a project grant — it funds your time, not a specific record or tour. Fellows are in residence on campus from 1 September to 1 July across two consecutive academic years, teach one course each semester (or take an artistic assignment instead, such as directing a production or making work with students), and are expected to be active in campus life rather than dropping in.
This cycle is open only to applicants in dance, theatre and music theatre, or music — composers, conductors and performers included. Creative writing and visual arts return next year. You don't need US citizenship or prior teaching experience. You're ruled out if you hold a Princeton PhD, have held a Hodder Fellowship, or have had a sustained relationship with the university, and you can't teach elsewhere during the fellowship.
The stipend is $93,000 a year for both years, with benefits. No match funding is required, and the guidelines mention no separate production budget. Applications run through Interfolio: a CV, work samples (recordings, video, scores), contact details for one reference, and a 750-word proposal covering how you would use the two years, what you might teach undergraduates, and how you approach community building in your practice. Around two fellows are chosen per cycle, and the stated basis for selection is recognised promise in both artistic practice and teaching.
