The Studios at MASS MoCA — General Fellowships (residencies Jul–Dec 2027)

This fellowship covers the full cost of a residency at The Studios at MASS MoCA in North Adams, Massachusetts — studio space, a private room, and meals — for up to four weeks, rather than paying out as cash. It's aimed primarily at visual artists and writers, and the program is explicit that musicians, dancers, and other performers are discouraged: the studios aren't soundproofed and there's no dedicated rehearsal space, so it suits composers, sound artists, and others who can work quietly with headphones or a laptop rather than live instruments. Applicants must be at least 18, with no restriction on nationality, career stage, or income, and partners or children generally can't be accommodated. There's a single open application for the whole program on Submittable — free to apply — where you simply check a box indicating you'd also like to be considered for a fellowship if accepted into a regular residency; there's no separate fellowship application or published selection criteria. The current open call, for stays between July and December 2027, runs from 1 September to 1 November 2026; the standing cycle after that reopens each 1 May and 1 November. The jury isn't announced ahead of decisions, and the Studios don't give individual feedback on unsuccessful applications.
