About this opportunity
Wave Farm's 2027 call covers four separate placements in transmission and radio art, all applied for through one form, though an applicant can only be offered one of them. The Transmission Art Residency and the Spatial Sound Residency are both ten days on site, each paying a $1,000 stipend and opening up the organisation's research library, equipment, workspace and staff support; Spatial Sound additionally includes a dedicated eight-channel studio and is aimed at artists who already have some technical grounding in spatial audio. The two Radio Art Fellowships run two months each, paying $2,000: Research asks the fellow to research and select historical and contemporary radio artworks for Wave Farm's archive, on site for ten days and then remotely, ending in a two- or three-episode series broadcast on WGXC 90.7-FM; Community Engagement asks the fellow to design and run a public workshop on radio technology and ideas, moving between remote planning, a ten-day in-person residency for the workshop itself, and writing up documentation afterward. None of the four require a finished project — proposals at any stage of development are welcome — and all are open internationally, though full-time students aren't eligible except in limited cases for career artists returning to postgraduate study. A peer panel of artists, engineers and past fellows reviews applications, prioritising proposals that engage seriously with radio and transmission as a medium and are realistic to carry out. Travel and meals are the applicant's own cost, though an advance on the stipend can sometimes help. Applications close 1 December 2026.
