About this opportunity

Art of Piano, Banff Centre's two-week program for emerging classical pianists, runs 25 May to 5 June 2027 and combines one-on-one lessons with faculty including Michelle Cann, Joanna MacGregor and Nicolas Namoradze with masterclasses on technique, career development and concert curation, plus collaborative and community performances. It's open to anyone 18 or older by the start date, including recent graduates, current students, and international applicants, though Banff programs don't qualify for a Canadian study visa — accepted non-Canadians need a visitor visa instead. At least two places are set aside for composer-pianists performing their own work, and everyone is expected to attend the full two weeks. The listed cost is CA$3,820.95, reduced for most applicants by Banff's standard scholarship to CA$1,873.46, which covers tuition and part of room and board; participants get a single room, a buffet meal plan with dietary accommodation, and 24-hour access to a practice studio, plus free use of the on-site pool and gym. Indigenous applicants can receive a scholarship covering the full cost, and a limited number of other named scholarships are considered automatically for anyone demonstrating need. Applying costs a non-refundable $65 (or $35 for Indigenous applicants) and means submitting, through SlideRoom, a two-page résumé, a one-page cover letter, up to three recordings (or, for composers, two original scores with a recording or MIDI realization), a one-page project proposal and a technical questionnaire, by 25 November 2026 at 11:59pm Mountain time. Selection weighs artistic quality and originality, relevant skill and experience, and how much the applicant stands to gain.
