About this opportunity
Fuse is a three-week residency at Banff Centre, in the Canadian Rockies, built around collaborative and interdisciplinary work rather than solo practice: classically trained pianists, string, wind, brass and percussion players, singers and composers work in small interdisciplinary groups and one-on-one with faculty that has included members of Architek Percussion, the Nadar Ensemble, and American Modern Opera Company, with round-the-clock studio access and chances to share works in progress publicly. Anyone 18 or older can apply, with no prior interdisciplinary experience required, though international participants need to arrange their own visitor visa since Banff Centre programmes don''t qualify for a student visa. It isn''t free: the total programme fee is roughly CA$9,075, but every participant automatically receives a scholarship of about CA$6,049 toward it, bringing the real cost to around CA$3,026 for a single room, meals, and tuition; Canadian Indigenous applicants have tuition, housing and meals covered in full, and a further pool of named scholarships is considered automatically. There''s also a non-refundable application fee of CA$65 (CA$35 for Indigenous applicants). You apply online and through SlideRoom with a two-page CV, a one-page cover letter explaining your goals, up to four audio or video recordings, and a technical-needs questionnaire. A panel weighs artistic quality, originality, your relevant skills and experience, and how much you stand to gain from the programme; it''s competitive, and unsuccessful applicants don''t get individual feedback.
