Riding Mountain Residency
Offered by Manitoba Arts Council
Who can apply
Manitoba-based artists, including musicians, seeking a creation or research residency.
About this opportunity
A two-week residency at Riding Mountain National Park for creative research, developing a new project or works in progress, skill development, or cultural and cross-sectoral exchange, with a $2,500 grant from the Manitoba Arts Council to support the stay. Residencies run between June and September, Monday check-in to Sunday check-out, and applicants list a first, second and third choice of dates since not everyone gets their preferred slot — residents in the busier July–August window are expected to do more public engagement than those in June or September.
Open to professional artists, arts and cultural professionals, and Indigenous Knowledge Keepers working in any discipline, so musicians are eligible even though the guidelines do not name music specifically; no Manitoba-residency requirement is stated. Applying is through the Council's online Manipogo system, with a project title, discipline and development stage, plus several short written sections — background, project description, a plan for public presentation, cultural integrity, and supporting information — each under its own word limit, an up-to-date CV, and one to three work samples such as images, up to 15 pages of text, or up to 4 minutes of audio or video.
The deadline is 15 January, with results announced roughly three months later. An external peer panel scores each application on artistic merit, impact and feasibility, rating ten specific statements from 1 to 5 — covering things like innovation, a clear artistic vision, technical skill, cultural integrity, benefit to audiences, and how thoroughly the plan is worked out.
