About this opportunity

Choral Art 2027 is a nine-day residency in a cappella vocal chamber music at Banff Centre, running 12–20 June 2027, where twelve pre-professional singers rehearse and perform alongside the ensemble Chanticleer and then join roughly forty more singers for the three-day Choral Art Festival that caps the programme. Workshops cover blended vocal technique, musicianship and sight-singing, conductorless ensemble work, building a freelance career, and working with composers, including a new commission from Sarah Quartel. It's open to individual pre-professional sopranos, altos, tenors and basses of any gender with ensemble experience, 18 or over, and you have to attend the whole thing — partial participation isn't considered. The programme fee is CA$2,721.60, covering a single room and meal plan; a Banff Centre Arts Scholarship of CA$1,424.59 brings your net cost to about CA$1,297, and Canadian Indigenous applicants receive a scholarship covering the full fee. There's a CA$65 non-refundable application fee (CA$35 for Indigenous applicants). You apply through SlideRoom with a two-page résumé, a one-page cover letter on your goals, and a portfolio: one foreign-language art song or aria, one non-classical piece, and a specified unaccompanied excerpt from Thomas Weelkes's "When David Heard." Applications close 9 December 2026; places are limited and judged on artistic merit, relevant experience and fit with the programme.
