Concurso Juventudes Musicales
Offered by Juventudes Musicales de España (JM España)
Who can apply
Performers and conductors of Spanish nationality or resident in Spain. Age caps vary by modality and are measured per convocatoria: 26 for strings, piano, wind and other instruments, 30 for early music, jazz, chamber music and voice, 35 for orchestral conducting. Ensembles are capped at 6 members for early music and jazz, must be stable, and must prove at least 6 months together before entries close. A soloist performing with accompaniment counts as a group (duo), so both players must meet the rules and the group entry fee applies.
About this opportunity
Spain's longest-running competition for young classical, early-music and jazz performers, run by Juventudes Musicales de España since 1979. Rather than one annual event, eleven instrumental and vocal categories are spread across seven calls over a three-year cycle. The most recent call, the 115th, closed on 4 September 2026 and covered piano and instruments without a category of their own — accordion, harp, organ, percussion and similar — with live rounds at the Conservatori del Liceu in Barcelona at the end of November.
You need Spanish nationality or residence in Spain. Age limits vary by category: under 27 for piano, strings, wind and "other instruments"; under 31 for jazz, early music, chamber groups and voice; under 36 for conducting. Ensembles are capped at six players and must have been working together for at least six months.
What you win is work rather than a cheque. First prize is a minimum of six concerts across two seasons on the Red de Músicas circuit, paid at €300 gross per concert for soloists and €250 per player in ensembles; second prize is at least three concerts in one season. Winners may also appear with the RTVE orchestra and be put forward through the EMCY and JMI networks.
Entry costs €50 for soloists and €75 for groups, non-refundable, and starts with a video round of at least ten minutes filmed in single fixed-camera takes. Travel and accommodation are your own. The jury scores anonymously and its decision is final. Everything is in Spanish.
That was the last call of the 2024-2026 cycle, and the bases for 2027-2029 are not published yet, so there is no open deadline right now.
