Finnish Composers (Suomen Säveltäjät) – Composition concert grants

This underwrites a concert built around one living composer's work. The Society of Finnish Composers funds profile concerts featuring composers who are Finnish or permanently resident in Finland, whether the concert happens in Finland or abroad. Chamber operas and large church works count; so does a composer performing their own pieces solo, though the expectation is that other performers are involved. A programme that is entirely improvised does not qualify.

You do not have to be a member of the Society, or a composer at all: producers, promoters, working groups, individual musicians and ensembles can all apply, as long as the composer has consented and is involved in planning or production. One important limit - any composer can receive this for a profile concert only once every three years.

The grant is up to EUR 2,000, or EUR 3,000 for something large like a chamber opera, and works as a loss guarantee: it covers a maximum of 80% of costs, so other income is effectively required and counts in your favour. Eligible costs are performer and producer fees, venue hire, performers' travel, publicity, programme booklets and sound and lighting. Composition fees, and any fee to the composer as performer or producer, are excluded.

Applications go through an online form open only during the application window - the Society lists the next as January 2027 - and need a full concert description with programme, duration and performers, plus an itemised cost and income estimate naming other funding applied for. Non-members also send a CV, a score extract and a recording. Money is paid afterwards against a report, and only once the concert has been registered with Teosto or the equivalent copyright body abroad. You can apply retrospectively for a concert already held, provided it fell after the last application round.
