IX Premio Internacional de Composición de Música para Banda «Vila de Muro» 2026

A single prize of EUR 4,500 for an original, unpublished symphonic work for wind band, run by the town council of Muro d'Alcoi in Alicante to add to the repertoire for wind and percussion ensembles. The winning score enters the archives of the town and of the Unio Musical de Muro, and must be credited to the prize whenever it is programmed, published or broadcast.

Composers of any nationality and any age can enter. The piece must be genuinely new - anything previously performed, published or awarded elsewhere is annulled - and should run roughly ten to twenty minutes, scored for the standard Valencian band instrumentation listed in the rules, with percussion for up to eight players. The jury will weigh departures from that instrumentation against the quality of the music.

Judging is blind. The score goes in as a PDF under a motto and title only, with nothing on it that identifies you; your name, ID copy, short biography, proof that you are up to date with tax and social security, and a signed declaration that the work is original travel in a separate sealed envelope or file, opened only if your piece wins. You can submit in person, by post or courier, or through the council's electronic office. The deadline is 2pm on 15 October 2026, with the verdict published during November.

An assessment commission chaired by the director of the Unio Musical de Muro, plus two music specialists, decides on the merits of the score alone; if nothing is strong enough the prize can be left unawarded. Payment is made in full less Spanish income-tax withholding. Rules exist in English, but the process itself runs in Spanish and Valencian.
