About this opportunity

The oldest guild in Barcelona, with five centuries of unbroken activity, is awarding its first-ever composition prize for a song built around 'Un amor que gentrifica,' a poem written for the occasion by Blanca Llum Vidal in Catalan. Entrants can set the poem in full, use part of it, or simply treat it as a starting point, in any musical genre or style, vocal or instrumental — the organisers say the aim is to push back against a standardised music market. The organiser's website and entry form are in Catalan, so applicants should expect to deal with the guild in that language.

Anyone of legal age can enter, alone or as part of a group, with no restrictions on nationality, residence or formal musical training; the piece has to be original and previously unreleased. Submissions need a score or chord chart, a reference recording, and a short written note on how the piece was made, along with an ID document and CV, all through a free online form by 31 January 2027.

The winner receives €5,000, of which €1,000 is earmarked for up to two professional recording and mastering sessions, and a separate €500 audience award is decided by vote at the live event. A six-person jury of composers, performers and music-education figures — including the poem's author — judges the entries, though no formal scoring criteria are published beyond their collective expertise. Up to five finalists perform live at the Palau de la Música in March 2027, where the results are announced.
