About this opportunity

The Valencia International Piano Competition — known locally as the Premio Iturbi, named for pianist José Iturbi — runs 2–12 June 2027 and is open to pianists of any nationality born on or after 2 June 1992, as long as they haven't already won its first prize or taken lessons from a jury member since mid-2025. Entry starts with a video preselection: a single-take HD recording, 20 to 30 minutes long, face and hands visible throughout, from which a panel picks 22 competitors. Those 22 then play two full recital programmes across the first two rounds, together covering set composers — Beethoven, Mozart and Chopin, plus a work by a Spanish composer such as Albéniz, Granados or Falla — before six semifinalists play a Beethoven concerto and three finalists play a concerto from a set list in the final. Every contestant receives 1,000 euro toward travel and living costs regardless of how far they get, rising to 1,300 euro for those reaching the second round. Prizes run from 30,000 euro for first place down to 10,000 for third, with 6,000 euro for semifinalists who don't reach the final and 2,000 euro special prizes for the best Beethoven and best Spanish-repertoire performances. Applying is through an online form that requires a CV, two professional recommendation letters, identification, and the preselection video, by 5 November 2026; the rules don't mention any registration fee. Note that the official rules and the entire application process are in Spanish.
