Koda Kultur / Musikforlæggerne – The Publishing Pool

This pool pays for the work publishers do around their writers: putting out records, printing sheet music, getting songs placed and getting writers into rooms with other writers. Eight categories are open. Releases cover recording, mixing, mastering, musician and producer fees and studio hire for new music by the publisher's own writers — reissues are out. Sheet music covers notation and proofreading rather than printing costs. Travel and export covers trips to sub-publishers, co-writing trips and songwriting camps. There is also PR and marketing (including videos), stands at fairs and exhibitions, concerts and touring, Play Danish concerts in week 44, and courses and training.

Only publishing members of Koda can apply, and only with a Danish CVR number, so this is not a route for individual artists. Several caps apply: ten applications per round overall, five each for releases and for PR, two applications per author per year, two sub-publishing trips and eight travel grants a year, three fairs and two exhibitions.

Amounts are not published for most categories. Play Danish concerts are capped at DKK 15,000 each and require musicians paid at Dansk Musiker Forbund rates; courses are capped at 50% of costs. You cannot take money from two Koda Kultur pools for the same phase of a project, though a release funded here can still get PR money later.

The application is short: a project description of no more than one page, a budget showing income and other funding applied for, and a presentation of the publisher and its main writers. Deadlines fall on 1 February, 15 May and 1 October, the portal opens three weeks beforehand, and the publishers' appropriations committee answers about a month after each deadline.
