About this opportunity
The Mirjam Helin International Singing Competition is one of the largest prizes in classical voice, held in Turku, Finland, with the 2027 edition's competition week running from 6 to 17 June. It funds a full career-launch moment rather than a single payment: six-figure-scale cash prizes, performance engagements in Finland and abroad for finalists, and at least a year of career coaching for the winner. It's open to singers born in or after 1995, with no nationality or voice-type restriction stated, provided you can commit to being free of other professional work during the competition. Prizes run from €60,000 for first place down to €10,000 each for fourth through sixth, with separate cash awards for the best Lied performance, the best performance of a Finnish composition, media and student jury favourites, an audience award, and a smaller payment to every semifinalist who doesn't reach the final. To apply, you submit an audiovisual recording — links aren't accepted — along with your proposed repertoire between 2 and 30 November 2026; the repertoire has to span three languages, include a Finnish composer and a piece written since 2000, and represent composers of different genders, performed across three rounds that get progressively more demanding, from an oratorio and opera aria plus solo pieces in the preliminary round up to orchestral repertoire in the final with the Turku Philharmonic. A jury narrows roughly 36 preliminary-round singers to 16 semifinalists and 6 finalists, and has discretion over exactly how the prize money is ultimately split.
