Professional jazz musicians with ordinary musician membership of Norsk jazzforum; for bands, at least 50% of members must be ordinary members. Student members cannot apply.
About this opportunity
Norsk jazzforum's musician and band stipend is built to buy practising jazz musicians in Norway the time to go deeper into their own work — rehearsing, studying further, or simply focusing — rather than funding a specific recording or tour. About NOK 1 million is set aside for 2027 across all awards.
Individual applicants can receive NOK 10,000; bands are funded by size rather than a flat rate, from NOK 12,000 for a duo up to NOK 24,000 for a sextet or larger. To qualify you need ordinary (non-student) membership of Norsk jazzforum — student members can't apply — and for a band, at least half the lineup should hold that same ordinary membership.
Applying means filling in the form on Norsk jazzforum's own website before the 1 November 2026 deadline. The organisation doesn't publish how it chooses among eligible applicants beyond the membership rules above, though the total pool is capped at around NOK 1 million for the year, so being eligible and applying on time may not guarantee an award. Recipients should know the stipend counts as taxable business income, and accepting it means agreeing to follow the organisation's ethical guidelines.
