About this opportunity

Travel money, and only travel money. This covers flights, accommodation and visas for concerts and tours outside Norway, or for songwriting and composing sessions abroad. Fees, per diems, production, recording, tour planning and travel inside Norway are all explicitly excluded, as are competitions, courses and study trips. Several journeys can go into one application.

Performers, artists, composers, songwriters and lyricists can apply, as can Norwegian music companies that represent them under contract or hold rights to their work. You must be a Norwegian citizen or resident in Norway and registered in the Norwegian business register; foreign musicians not permanently resident in Norway are not eligible. Composers can apply for a world premiere, or where they take an active part in the performance. The songwriting strand is aimed at people writing for other artists with international careers, not at your own releases.

There are four deadlines a year — 1 March, 1 June, 1 September and 1 December, at 23:59 — with answers roughly three to four weeks later. Concerts must already be confirmed with venue and date, and the invitation or confirmation is attached to the application. Budgets are in Norwegian kroner and itemised, with your own contribution entered as income; projects are never fully financed, so the grant is partial by design.

An external expert committee assesses the whole application, weighing concrete plans and objectives, partners at home and abroad, evidence of real international demand, the prospect of new income, your track record and your growth potential. A final report is due within two months of the project ending, and a missing report blocks your next application. The guidelines and portal are in Norwegian.
