About this opportunity
This Musicaction program exists to get artists at the very start of a career into the industry properly. It funds the production of two to four digital tracks, plus the work of putting them in front of industry people — showcases, a press kit, a website, and the travel involved in doing that.
The eligibility line is drawn tightly. You must be Canadian, self-producing, and you cannot already have recorded and released an album or EP; a maximum of two digital tracks on streaming platforms is allowed. Indigenous artists and artists from francophone official-language minority communities outside Quebec get an exception and may have released more. All tracks must meet Canadian and francophone content standards — English-language projects go to FACTOR instead. You can only receive this program once.
The maximum is $5,000 per project, and it covers no more than 75% of accepted costs, so you are funding at least a quarter yourself. Expenses from six months before you apply can count. Typically 75% is paid on signing, the rest after the final report.
You apply through an online form with a completed Excel application and budget, two of the tracks you want funded as MP3s with lyrics, and the producer's CV. Incomplete applications are refused outright. An independent jury scores artistic quality, which is 60% of the decision; the remaining 40% comes from an assessment grid looking at how your career has developed in recent years. Deadline: 2 September 2026 at 5pm EDT. The program is administered in French.
