About this opportunity
The Center for Art and Advocacy is offering six $20,000 fellowships for 2027 to artists who have personally been incarcerated — in a US prison, jail or detention centre, or, for former migrant detainees, who now hold US citizenship. One of the six is reserved for artists aged 18 to 24; there's no upper age limit for the rest. It's open to any creative discipline — music included alongside visual art, film, writing, performance and design — and to any career stage; formal training isn't required. You apply as an individual, not an organisation, and you're expected to work with an advocacy organisation while developing or carrying out your project, using your practice in service of ending mass incarceration. Alongside the $20,000, fellows get mentorship, join a community of past and current fellows, and are invited to an annual retreat in New York City.
