About this opportunity
Winter Ethno Estonia is a ten-day folk music camp on a farm in Kiidi, in the south-east of the country, running 22 to 31 January 2027 and ending with a concert in Viljandi. Around 25 young musicians spend the week outdoors, in the sauna, and in sessions led by two visiting mentors — violinist Regina Mänd and multi-instrumentalist Pieterjan Van Kerckhoven — learning Estonian rural musical traditions by ear rather than from sheet music. This isn't a grant: it's a paid-participation camp. The fee is €350 for musicians resident in the EU, US or Canada, and €250 for residents of anywhere else, covering accommodation, all meals and transport during the camp itself (not travel to and from Estonia). Rooms are shared, and the team cooks, though participants are welcome to help out in the kitchen. It's open to musicians aged 18 to 35, with no nationality requirement — the fee tier depends on where you live, not your passport. You register rather than apply with a formal portfolio, and the organisers say they choose participants to build a balanced, strong-sounding group rather than on a fixed set of criteria, so acceptance isn't guaranteed and decisions aren't explained individually. Registration closes 11 November 2026, with acceptance letters sent out after that.
