About this opportunity
Travel grants from the Music Fund cover the cost of getting somewhere: a concert tour, a showcase festival, a music conference, a delegation trip, or the premiere abroad of a composer's work. There is no minimum number of shows — the committee weighs the trip as a whole against the fund's purpose of promoting Icelandic music. Recording sessions abroad are explicitly excluded.
The fund pays up to ISK 75,000 per person for travel within Europe and ISK 100,000 outside it, for a maximum of eight people, capping any single application at ISK 600,000 or ISK 800,000 respectively. Those eight can include a manager, an agent or a sound engineer if you explain why they are needed for the performance. You cannot claim for travel someone else is already paying for: if a promoter or booker covers the flights, that part is not eligible, and your own contribution must appear in the budget. There is no limit on how many travel grants one applicant can receive in a year.
Deadlines fall every two months — 1 February, April, June, August, October and December — and late applications roll into the next round automatically.
The form asks for a bio, links, the reason and purpose of the travel with dates and venues, the participants, a reasoned case for the target market (measurable demand on streaming or social platforms, partners on the ground), the expected outcome, and a budget shared as an openly viewable link. Templates are provided. An Icelandic kennitala is required.
Scoring is published: 40% the project, 40% how realistic the budget is, 20% the people travelling.
