Komponistenes vederlagsfond (Musikkfondene) – Sep deadline

This fund pays composers and songwriters to write. It is one of three Norwegian funds under the Musikkfondene umbrella, and the one aimed at the act of creation itself. Four stipends are open to individuals: a work stipend, effectively a fee for making a specific piece of music; a travel stipend for professionally relevant trips such as courses, workshops, festivals or attending performances of your work; an equipment stipend for gear that is genuinely central to how you compose, which cannot have been bought before the deadline; and an in-depth stipend funding a year of artistic development, available only at the September deadline.

Applications must come from the composer personally. Anything submitted by management or on a composer's behalf is not processed. Where several writers collaborate, each applies separately for their own share, attaching a collaboration agreement that states the percentages.

Note what is excluded: rehearsal, recording, performing, arranging, part-writing and lyric-writing are all outside scope. The fund normally part-finances rather than covering a fee in full, and for commissions involving an institution or larger organisation it expects you to have approached other funders first.

You attach a CV, audio samples, a project description and a budget showing how you calculated the amount; the fund publishes a guide to composer fees to work from. Deadlines are 2 February and 2 September at 13:00, with answers within eight weeks.
