About this opportunity
Iceland's Music Fund puts money toward getting Icelandic music out of the country: concert tours, showcase festivals, music conferences, delegation trips and premieres of new compositions abroad. There is no minimum number of shows — the committee looks at the project as a whole rather than counting dates. Two things it will not fund: anything that has already happened, and recording sessions abroad.
The form asks for an Icelandic kennitala and Icelandic bank details, so in practice this is for artists, composers and companies based in Iceland. You can apply on behalf of a group, and the trip can include a manager, agent, sound engineer or anyone else necessary to the performance, with a rationale for people outside the core lineup. There is no cap on how many travel grants you can receive in a year.
Support is per person: up to ISK 75,000 each within Europe, ISK 100,000 each outside it, for up to eight participants. It is not awarded where a booker or promoter is already covering the travel, and you are expected to show your own contribution in the budget.
The application covers your bio, links, the purpose of the trip with dates, cities and venues, and a reasoned case for the target market — measurable demand on streaming or social, partners, collaborators — plus the outcome you expect. A budget on a shareable spreadsheet is required; templates are provided.
The scoring is published: 40% on the project (well defined, engaging, ambitious, professionally executed), 20% on the applicant's and participants' track record, and 40% on whether the budget is realistic and shows genuine financial need. Deadlines fall every two months — 1 February, April, June, August, October and December — and anything late rolls into the next round.
